Preparing Your Vehicle for the Summer Holidays: Tips from Tony's Auto Clinic
Posted November 29, 2022
Summer is a great time to hit the road and explore New Zealand in your vehicle. But before you head out on your road trip, make sure your car is in tip-top shape with the help of Tony’s Auto Clinic in Katikati. Our friendly staff are happy to provide advice and assistance to ensure that your vehicle is ready for trouble-free motoring during the summer holidays.
Here are some key tips for preparing your vehicle for the summer holidays:
- Check that your WOF and registration are up to date. You don’t want to be stuck over the holiday period with an expired WOF.
- If you are planning to cover a lot of distance on your road trip, consider getting your vehicle serviced before you leave. This will help ensure that your car is running smoothly and efficiently for the duration of your journey.
- Don’t forget to check your tyre pressure and condition. Under-inflated tyres can use more fuel and cost you more money. Look for cuts, bulges, and uneven wear on the tyres, and consider getting a wheel alignment and balance if you haven’t had one in the last 12 months.
- Clean all the glass on your vehicle, including the mirrors, and make sure your wiper blades are in good condition. Fill up the windscreen washer fluid and add fresh detergent. If you have a crack on your windscreen, get it repaired before you hit the road, as heat and travel can cause it to grow larger.
- Check that all your lights are working and the lenses are clean. This is especially important during the holiday season when safety and visibility are crucial.
- Make sure your underbonnet levels are at the correct levels (coolant, oil, brake fluid, power steering oil, and transmission oil). If you need to regularly top up these fluids, get your car checked out by a professional before you leave.
- If you are planning to tow a trailer, boat, or caravan, make sure it is in good working order. Check the wheel bearings to ensure they are not loose or noisy, and carry a spare tyre for your trailer or caravan. Make sure all the lights and indicators are functioning correctly.
Please note that Tony’s Auto Clinic will be closed for the Christmas break from December 23 to January 9. If you have any questions or would like to make an enquiry, please contact us before the holiday period. We look forward to helping you get your vehicle ready for the summer road trip season.
